Pioneers of this now ubiquitous Napa Valley tradition, the iconic Diamond Creek Vineyards and its founders Al and Boots Brounstein divided their holdings into four distinct plots based on elevation, soil, aspect, and slope. From the first vintages in the early 1970’s, distinct differences between the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wines expressed their unique microclimates and terroir for which Napa Valley has become famous.

Red Rock Terrace
The 7-acre north-facing Red Rock Terrace vineyard is situated in one of the estate’s warmest microclimates. The rocky, red-tinted soil is high in oxidized iron content. Its wines express dark cherry and black currant flavors; ripe, mouthcoating, velvety tannins; and notes of tea, iron and savory dried herbs.

Volcanic Hill
The 8-acre, south-facing Volcanic Hill vineyard has gray soils with the consistency of light, fluffy, volcanic ash. The site typically produces Diamond Creek’s most powerful and long-lived wines. Volcanic Hill sees full-bodied Cabernet with ripe berry fruit, smoky richness, scented earth, and elegant tannins that make the wine alluring in youth but eminently age-worthy.
